Hi, my name is Ryan Wright and I am currently a junior in High School. I began taking College Credit Plus courses at Sinclair to fulfill both high school and college requirements to save both time and money on my higher education. I am dedicated to my education, but also a typical teenager that takes time to relax. When I am not working, I enjoy watching and reading about my favorite sports teams, coaches, players and game outcomes. I also spend a lot of time reading about video game development and preparing for their release so I can chat online with my like-minded friends. For this course, I chose to focus my research on Virtual Reality Technology because it is new and rapidly developing, but many people do not understand its true potential.
Even though it is challenging for me to convey my thoughts in writing as quickly or easily as I can speak them, I have done my best this semester to capture my thoughts on paper. I can’t believe I am at the end of my challenging, fast, and furious 8 weeks to complete ENG 1201! I hope you learn a little as you browse my site. I have included my Research Proposal, Research Essay, and Online Casebook. I have also included my first college level writing assignment from ENG 1101, which required no research and was just a fun, literary-walk, down memory lane.
My Research Proposal changed a few times over the course of the semester. Once I realized the final Research Essay had to be argumentative, I needed to reframe my research plan. It was a challenge to write the Research Essay and to use so many sources of information. Longer papers have always been a challenge, but I approached this project as separate papers that all went together at the end to support my thesis, which helped. The Online Casebook took a typical Working Bibliography one step further because the sources needed investigated and evaluated. It was helpful to review my classmates’ work because it gave me ideas to improve my projects. Feedback from students is so important because it is tough to be a self-critic. The information I gathered from the casebook and from peer reviews were very helpful for my final paper. I appreciated the chance to add visuals to my paper so the general public would understand the technology I refer to throughout the paper. I am a visual learner and hope that it helps other visual learners, too.
My Literary Analysis from ENG 1101 is my final page of the ePortfolio. I included this paper because it was my first college writing piece. It is very different from my technical research writing and was a fun way to write down my memory of my reading journey through my education. It was a paper that was assigned and due in a short time frame, so it is not as polished as my Research Paper. It was more enjoyable to write because there were not many requirements.
In ENG 1201, I have learned a lot about finding my own answers to my questions. After reading through all of the lessons and information, there was no one except myself to figure out how to put all of the requirements together to complete weekly assignments. I did a good job turning in assignments on time and I enjoyed the chance to offer suggestions to others. I could still improve on my grammar skills, but that is an individual weakness that really requires a personal editor. I have learned that I writing is not my easiest or most enjoyable work to complete, but I have a better understanding of what it takes to compose academic writing.
